What should you look for in a fabric cutting table
If you are a dab hand when it comes to sewing or making blankets or perhaps you are a seamstress by trade then one of the most important tools of your trade is the fabric cutting table. It can be quite hard to know where to start when you are looking for a cutting table to match your requirements so we have compiled a list to make sure that you get everything you need out of your new table.
It can be very easy to focus on using the dining room table or kitchen table when you need a cutting table but this can mean bad news especially if you are not the most nimble handed of people and cutting into your expensive household furniture is something that you really don’t want to do. This is why it is important to make sure that you are using a cutting table that meets all of your needs regardless of whether the kitchen table will do for now!
Although cutting tables come in a variety of sizes, in most opinions the bigger the table the better the work. This is not to say that you cannot use a small table however, sometimes a smaller sized will have to do if you are working in a rather small room or space. Ideally you want one that you can fit into the area where you do your fabric work and if you can afford to spend the extra on the biggest one that you can accommodate, it is wise to do so.
As well as making sure that you have a good sized cutting table, you also want to make sure that it is the right height for you. A table that is too low is a sure fire way to ensure that you get a painful back, having to crouch over to cut your fabric or work out your patterns so ideally you should be looking for a fabric cutting table that is around 36 inches high and ideally around 60 inches in length. This ensures that you are working at the right height especially if you do this kind of thing for a living - you don’t want to spend your entire working day with a sore back, grumbling!
There are some additional features that you can find with a cutting table that can come in handy. One of the first of these is drawers where you can safely store all of the cutting tools that you need. This is a must have for those that are using the cutting table in the home or somewhere that children and young adults may be. Safety is key with hobbies and employment such as this and the last thing that you want is someone thinking that they can do your work for you and injuring themselves at the same time! Either that or a small child playing around with your expensive equipment!
